Students and internal staff are allowed to observe surgical procedures without needing the consent of the lead surgeon. This puts pressure on the surgeons to perform well in front of an audience, which can lead to disasters if they are performance-shy.

Ezra loathes being observed while at work, which makes him terribly ill tempered and as a result has earned him a bad reputation with just about everyone in the hospital. Still, despite his anger issues, he is incredibly skilled and is among the best of the surgeons available at the hospital, whether he has an audience or not.

Wow. This is getting more intriguing as the plot progresses. I really love these characters. Quirks and all.
